Data Quality - Long Titles

I am a bit confused, the new specifications state that titles can be up to 150 char long.. but in my data quality section it flags up any title over 70 char to be optimised?

Hi huggettm,

Is this an adwords related query?

Could you be more specific as to what you are looking for? I suspect you may be on the incorrect forum.

feed status reports --

attributes flagged for (the new) character-limits,
typically within the feed-status-summary-reports,
must be corrected by the september deadline or
the items will be removed from the auctions or

trigger a disapproval or suspension -- note that

any value-too-long warnings under a data-feed

status report will turn to errors and disapprovals

after the september deadline.

quality reports --
attributes flagged with only a warning or optimization,
within the account quality-sections, should be changed
to help improve the probability of the item winning in
the auctions or improving overall performance; errors
or examples of errors however, can eventually trigger
a disapproval or suspension.

that didnt answer my question...

my titles are not over the new limit of 150 char

but are being flagged up if they are over 70 char

those are two different issues;
one is for exceeding a hard-limit (150) the other for a quality-limit (70) --
both can be flagged by google.

the first limit is a "must" the second limit is a "should".

exceeding the former will trigger eventual removal or disapproval;
exceeding the latter may cause items to do poorly in the auctions.

from the post it sounds like simply a quality-limit.

however, forum members do not have access to (feed) data or accounts --
if google is contacted directly a person can look into the feed and account.

pretty misleading to bring out a new specification for 150 characters (which I have bulked up my titles for) and then find that this causes quality alerts.

understood.

most all attributes and website content have both hard-limits
and requirements that if not followed can trigger disapproval
or suspension from the program -- and, for values not explicitly
mandated by google, also have guidelines and recommendations
that may help to improve quality and therefore auction results
against competitors over time.

in the case of title, although the entire 150 characters will be indexed for

search, and exceeding that limit will result in the item being removed or

disapproved, only 70 characters or less may be displayed depending on

the context; the attention to this detail may help quality and performance --

the first 25-70 characters should be considered mainly for (display) quality;

the remaining should be considered for search and relevance.
