Hi Simon B,

No, you should not do that. If no EAN number is available, you can assign your own MPN.

Best of Luck!

"Please do not invent or approximate values for GTIN, MPN, or Brand. Each has a prescribed value assigned by the manufacturer, and any other value will be flagged as invalid."

"When there is no unique product identifier for an item, provide this information explicitly in your feed by specifying the ‘identifier exists’ attribute for that item. When an identifier exists for the item but you do not have it, it is important to add the correct identifier to your feed rather than using the ‘identifier exists’ attribute."

Hi Celebird, the (Oracle) software products that we sell are all electronically delivered and although they have unique product codes, do not have GTIN codes (according to Oracle, they used to have them, but no longer do due to their distribution model). I have tried the identifier_exists entry, but the feed still gets rejected. Google tech support has been unable to figure out how to mitigate. I've been trying/waiting to get a simple feed online for 3 weeks with success...

unique-product-identifiers are the three attributes gtin, brand, and mpn --

these global-trade-data values must be assigned by a brand-manufacturer
to the exact item being sold.

the type of item determines which valid values must be submitted --

generally, media items require only a valid gtin.

if the required, valid, data exists the data must be submitted --

otherwise, identifier_exists with a value of FALSE must be

submitted and all other global-trade-data (mpn, gtin, brand)

should be left entirely blank (empty) for that item.

as to "rejected" -- there are many many additional rules,
requirements, and policies that must be followed -- both
within the data-feed and on the website -- especially with

respect to software-downloads, that have nothing whatever

to do with global-trade-data, but can still trigger a rejection,

disapproval, or suspension, at any time.

the best likely course is to continue working with the
person at google who has been assigned to the issue.
