How can we target Direct users?

We are trying to setup an A/B test targeting direct users but we are unable to see this option under targeting. Is there a solution or work around for this?

Hi

I assume that by 'direct' you mean people that type the url in the browser or have a bookmark? Or are you referring to not be coming through a campaign?

For the first case perhaps you could use the 'Page referrer' under 'Behavior' in the targeting rules (targeting tab) for this.

Basically you want to add a rule so that the referrer is empty (equals to '').

This is not intuitive I am afraid since there is no way to specify an empty value, but you could use the 'does not match regex' option and specify the value '.'

So something like:

"Page referrer does not match regex ."

Alternatively, you can add a targeting rule of "Page referrer matches '^$'".
