Sessions from search engines

Hello all,

When I am looking at the Acquisition > All Traffic > Source/Medium report, I am a little confused at what the sessions are telling me.

For example, when I look at the Google entry, I can see I have 300 new users from here, but I also have 400 sessions. Does this mean that some of those 300 people used Google again to find our website, or that some of those 300 people were returning visitors who started new sessions?

I hope that makes sense!

Hey Snaggle,

Sessions are not users and vice versa. A new session is triggered either (a) when someone arrives on your page for the first time or (b) your session duration ends after pre-determined time of inactivity and then a visiting user returns to activity or returns to the domain before their initial session time had run out.

By default a session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity although this can be changed in your settings.

There is why you have more sessions than new users.

Let me know if this answers your question!
