Optimize(Free version)- When running redirect test there is a lag time

Issue:We are currently running an redirect test on 2 URL's and see an huge performance load time issue, (times listed below)
Using GTM-  we placed the javascript <style> snippet in the HTML which has been placed directly after the opening <body> tag.
This lag is occurring on both pages and is effecting revenue to our US site.  Does anyone else have this issue with the free version of google optimize?
We even tried to change the 4000 parameter to 1000 and still a lag
Results:
Chrome: 2-3 second lag
Firefox: 10-11 seconds lag

<style>.async-hide { opacity: 0 !important} </style>
<script>(function(a,s,y,n,c,h,i,d,e){s.className+=' '+y;h.start=1*new Date;
h.end=i=function(){s.className=s.className.replace(RegExp(' ?'+y),'')};
(a[n]=a[n]||[]).hide=h;setTimeout(function(){i();h.end=null},c);h.timeout=c;
})(window,document.documentElement,'async-hide','dataLayer',4000,
{'GTM-TTXMSHB':true});</script>

It sounds like you are deploying both the hiding snippet and Optimize itself via GTM. The hiding snippet should be placed directly on the page. Optimize can be deployed via GTM but there can be some performance issues if not done properly. See the following help article for more details: the https://support.google.com/360suite/optimize/answer/6262084

Are you willing to share the URL of the page where this is deployed?

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the response.
Yes- we deployed the hiding- (anti-flicker) snippet directly on the page
(hard code) push and not using GTM
We placed in within the tag above the .

Within GTM, we set-up the Optimize container with the {gaproperty ID} and
trigger for -(load page) was deployed via GTM.

The problem we had with lag time was so severe we had to stop the Optimize
test and have an emergency deployment to
remove the hiding snippet.

Do you know if the Optimize 360 version uses this same code or another
version?

Thanks-
Andre

Yes, Optimize 360 uses the same code for this. Would you be willing to share a link to the site where GTM is deployed?

Hi Jim,
No problem. Both the Original and the Variant 1 page are live.
But, you can't get to the Variant 1 page unless you click this link.
We have removed the snippet and turned off the experiment.<br>Do you have any ideas why this is happening?<br><br>Original<br>https://www.iherb.com/c/children-s-health<br><br>Variant 1<br>https://www.iherb.com/rc/children-s-health<br><br>-- <br>*The information contained in this message is the sole and exclusive <br>property of **iHerb Inc.** and may be privileged and confidential. Looking at the page source for the Original I see a performance issue with the way you are deploying GTM. The GTM recommendation is to place the GTM snippet as high in the <head> tag as possible (https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/6103696?hl=en#install) Yours is currently at the top of the <body>. However, you are triggering the GTM code to load on the DOMContentLoaded event which further delays loading GTM on the page (around 1.5 seconds in my quick test on Chrome). If possible, I would recommend you modify your GTM snippet to improve its loading performance.
