Setting Up Goals in GA

 Hi everyone,

I had a question regarding Goals in Creating Experiments. I tried in the past to set up a Thank You goal, but the Goal isn't being tracked as it should be.

This is the message I get when I try to verify:

This Goal would have a 0% conversion rate based on your data from the past 7 days. Try a different setup.

Could anyone please help me with this issue? I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Can you post the details about your goal setup?

Thanks!

Hi Arnold,

Thanks for getting back to me. Sure, so, basically I want to track Goal Conversions to our landing page. The Goal I set up is a basic Thank You and Destination /thankyou. The Goal itself appears as 0.00 all the time, despite leads we receive through the landing page.

Is there something I'm missing for goal setup? Is there a tracking conversion perhaps I missed? We also plan on A/B Testing a CTA button on our landing page, using Content Experiments. The Goal Destination, in this case, would be /thankyou2. Does this seem correct in tracking the landing page URL?

I really appreciate your help. Thanks again!

Hi Jordan,

Please make sure that the tracking code is installed on the thank you pages. You can use the Google Tag Assistant Chrome extension to see if it is working properly. Also check if there are no view filters that might block the traffic from the thankyou page. Make sure that you use the same path in your goal as it appears under Behavior -> Site Content -> All Pages. Let me know what you find.

Hi Arnold,

The aim here for us is a few things:

1. Track each completion for our landing page. How can I use Tag Assistant for this, or is there an alternate way via Analytics?

2. I just created a new Goal called Lead Generation. Will I be able to see leads that completed the submission form for our landing page?

3. We are going to test Content Experiments tomorrow, so the URL's to track would be /thankyou and /thankyou2. Does that sound correct?

4. Our webmaster has his own system and the site is dynamic. Do we need to set up UTM parameters to track?

Sorry for so many questions, I'm fairly new to the tracking process for landing pages.

As always, I truly appreciate your help.

Best,

Jordan

Would the tracking code be found in the Conversions?

Hi,

Tag Assistant is a debugging tool, it checks if tracking is working on a page.

If you could share the thankyou page URL, I'd be glad to check it for you.

In order to track form submissions you either need a destination goal if you have a form success page or an event based goal. For the event based goal you need to send an event to GA when the form is submitted and use it for your goal.

You don't need UTM parameters for the goals, they are for tracking custom campaigns.

Hi Arnold,

This is the landing page we want to track:

http://www.expert-salesforce-solutions.cloudtech-apps.com/

This is the thank you page:

http://www.expert-salesforce-solutions.cloudtech-apps.com/thankyou

Is there anything on either of those pages that needs to be tracked?

Hi,

/thankyou is ok as the destination path and tracking seems to be working fine on the site.

Did you check if /thankyou appears under Behavior -> Site Content -> All Pages?

Hi Arnold,

Yes, I see the /thankyou page. I also see spam URL's. I believe there is a way to exclude them from Referrals as well?

Thank you again for your help.
