Linking adds data from campaigns that point to different websites[ Edited ]
March - last edited March
I've got an Adwords account with several campaigns, each of which contains ads pointing to a different website. When linking the Adwords account to Analytics, Analytics then imports data from _all_ of the campaigns inside the adwords account. This results in Analytics reporting a click-to-session discrepancy for those campaigns that do not actually point to the website in question, which is quite logical.
To clarify, here's a hypothetical example: Basically, I've got an adwords account with campaigns for sports cars and dog food. Analytics is now warning me that my website for sports cars is not receiving sessions from my dog food campaign and that website for dog food is not receiving sessions from my sports car campaign.
My question is: Is there a way to only import data from certain campaigns into Analytics? Or is there something inherently wrong with my setup?
Linking adds data from campaigns that point to different websites
Hi @aktm :-)
This can be fixed by creating and applying a filter to each View
If you are running campaigns for multiple websites, and are tracking these in your Analytics account:
For each view that should include a subset of your AdWords data, create a custom Include filter as follows:
- Log in to your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com.
- Click the Tools and Analysis tab, then click Analytics.
- Create a filter with the following attributes:
Filter Type: Custom filter > Include
Filter Field: Campaign Target URL
Filter Pattern: [the domain of your AdWords campaign's destination URLs]
Case Sensitive: No
For example, if this view is tracking the campaign for website www.example.com, enter
example\.comas the Filter Pattern (note that the dot in the URL must be escaped by a backslash).
- From the Available Website Views list, select the view to which this filter applies, then click Add.
- Click Finish.
This filter tells Analytics to include only the AdWords data for campaigns that lead to a specific domain. You need to create a similar filter for each view in which you want to include AdWords data, and make sure that you apply each filter to the correct view.
