segment for users viewing one directory only

Hello

My website is divided into separate sections, each one in its own folder:

mywebsite.com/folder1/index.php

mywebsite.com/folder2/index.php

etc.

I am trying to create a segment to show me users who only view pages within folder1. There are many different pages in folder one, so the user may be navigating around a bit, but still I want to be able to see users who only ever look at pages in folder1.

It's that possible at all?

In effect I want to make a rule that says "every page visited in the session must contain "folder1" in the url.

Thanks!

Phil.

Hi Phil,

You should be able to do this by doing the following.

1. Create Custom Segment.
2. Go to Conditions > Filter > Sessions > Exclude
3. Set the dimension to Page > Does Not Contain > /folder1/

I think this is perhaps what you are looking for?

Hi Phil,

Yes it's possible. To accomplish that you will need to create an advanced segment using Page > matches regex^/folder1.*

Something like this http://i.imgur.com/nid0396.png

Hope it helps,

Carlos

Hi,

Just wanted to clarify. Advanced Segments are visit based. So if one applied the segment with a filter on ^\/folder1/.*, then it would capture not just the pageviews specific to /folder1/.*, but it would capture any other pages visited by the user, where in that same session he/she also visited something in /folder1/.

Another approach would be to create a new view with an include filter for that specific folder.

Alternatively, one can use the in-line advanced search or custom reports.

Thanks for the clarification, that's very helpful. Yes that's all I've managed to do so far - to see people who viewed a page in /folder1/ during their session. They may though have views pages in other folders as well.

what I'm trying to achieve is to see people who's session contains ONLY pages in /folder1/
If they view a page in another folder then they should be excluded.

How would i accomplish that please?

Thanks!

@Scott C -  Apologies I'd misunderstood that first time. Yes I follow your logic and that's worked nicely. Thanks for the help!
