URL Redirecting Track GA

Hi there,

Our website's main goal is to lead users to a successful booking. In order to track the number of successful bookings, we have tagged the booking confirmation page as the successful goal completion page. The challenge we face is that once a booking is made, users can view booking from their profile dashboard leading them to the same URL. This again triggers that analytics tag and counts it as goal completion when in reality, this was just a view of a previous booking. The result is overcounting of goal completions.

In this case, what would be the best practice (with least effort hopefully) to make sure we track only the original booking and not subsequent views of this original booking?

Many thanks,

Sid

Append a query string variable to the link from the profile dashboard so it is an obvious revisit. Don't fire GA (or fire a virtual page with a different URL) if the query string variable is present. Google Tag Manager would make these rules simple to implement - start here: https://analyticsacademy.withgoogle.com/course/5

Hello,

Another option would be to create an interstitial TY page that fits between the 'submit booking' page and the dashboard/bookmarked page. This intermediary page would be the one to trigger the Goal Completion, which then has a link directing users to view their dashboard and all booking information (aka different URL).
This way users can return to the dashboard as often as they want, without getting double counts for your goal page.
