Should I be using virtual page views for an event?

I have a number of rotating text links that show randomly on a page. Each time one of them is clicked it registered an event however we're asked to report on the metrics of how many "impressions" each one got. Since it's random we can't entirely assume that its equal and just do page views / items to find that figure. Is there a more accurate way? So for example it will show under events the virtual page views of the item that was clicked and where it was clicked from?

You can send the location where the event was registered as the event label:

<a href="#" onclick="ga('send', 'event', 'category', 'action', location.pathname);">link</a>

If you want to track how many times each link was displayed, I'd suggest to use the impressionTracker autotrack plugin:

You can find more information about autotrack here:

Hope this helps, let me know if you have questions.
