Setting up Goals

Hi,

Is it possible to set up a Destination Goal with a URL which belongs to some other website?

So people clicking on the Download Now button on my page would lead the user to a different website. Can I track this using Goals?

Hi,

It is possible to fire a virtual pageview when the download button is clicked and you can set up that virtual page as the destination goal page.

The code for you link should look like this:

<a href="http://www.external-site/downlaod" onclick="ga('send', 'pageview', {'page': '/download-click','title': 'Download Click'});">Download Now</a>

Hope this helps, let me know if you have questions.

Thanks Arnold, but what would be the destination URL in my goal?

Hi,

The destination page for your goal from the example would be the virtual page path you define in your code, from the example:

/download-click

From

<a href="http://www.external-site/downlaod" onclick="ga('send', 'pageview', {'page': '/download-click','title': 'Download Click'});">Download Now</a>

Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks Arnold, so basically my users are being directed to the Google Play Store to download my App. My page has that download link which takes a user to the Play Store. I need to track how many people are clicking on that Download link.

According to our past conversation, I have made a virtual webpage whose URL would replace (http://www.external-site/download) this link and (/download-click) this link BOTH in the code you mentioned above.

So anyone who clicks on that Download link would be redirected to that virtual webpage and that virtual webpage would redirect the user to the Play Store. Also the destination URL of my goal would be the URL of the virtual page.

Is it correct?
