Hourly, Day, Week and Month Traffic All the Same

I've noticed for the past couple of months at least that when I go in to my GA dashboard the traffic numbers for hourly, day, week, and month are constantly all the same. I've tried troubleshooting to no avail. I have no idea why this is happening and would love some help in figuring it out!

Hi Kayla,

Could you provide us with your page URL?

Hi Kayla,

Could you tell us more (or better upload some screenshots) what do you understand by saying that your traffic is all the same? Do you mean that it stays on the same level (for given time period) regardless of time od day/week/month etc.?

I looked at your page and if I may I would suggest making some changes. Your GA snippet is somewhere in the middle of your site's code - according to Google's recommendation it should be placed right before closing </head> tag. I would strongly advised you to move it there to avoid problems between other scripts or code that may interrupt or interfer with running GA code. Are you able to do that?

I also noticed that you run simultanously ga.js and analytics.js in your page. While it's allowed to do so it is also recommended that each code would use different property (example below). In your case property is the same for both snippets what may cause serious problems.

Also on your fashion page is executed some Blogger's Widget that executes several data payloads to different GA properties. Do you know what those are?

Aforementioned example

<script type="text/javascript">
var _gaq = _gaq || [];
_gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-xxxxx-y']);
_gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);

(function() {
var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
ga.src=('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
})();
</script>
<script>
(function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){
(i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o),
m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m)
})(window,document,'script','//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga');

ga('create', 'UA-xxxxx-z', 'yoursite.com');
ga('send', 'pageview');
</script>

Here are those screenshots of my numbers. These numbers are from the date range of May 26th through to June 25th but all the numbers for each tab (hourly, day, week, and month) are exactly the same when I know they should each be different.

Capturehourly.JPGCaptureday.JPGCaptureweek.JPGCapturemonth.JPG

I had no idea my code snipped was in the middle of my code though! I had looked at it the other day and found 2 GA codes, one of which I took out so I must have not realized I took out the wrong duplicate. I moved the whole code to right above the </ head> tag so I will see if that manages to fix the issue.

I'm very novice when it comes to codes so I'm not exactly sure what you mean about the other conflicting codes but I will do my best to look into it and see if I can fix those issues, too. And I'm not sure what you mean about my fashion page and the different payloads. Could you try to explain a little more?

Thank you for all this help! I really appreciate it!

Hi Kayla,

When I looked at your screens I realized that there is actually nothing wrong with your report. Data stays the same regardless of tab chosen because it's a summary - it's showing data for whole selected period. Data for particular time (hour/day/week/month) range is being shown on a chart above summary - there you can clearly see that data shown there differs when you choose different time range.

As for other questions/issues - your code still isn't where it would be best to place it as there is still some script after it. Looking at your page's source it should look like this:

GA SCRIPT</head>

Also you still send data to the same property for both GA codes (UA-24376047-1). Please take a look at my first answer. There in red you could see that Property for both scripts (ga.js/analytics.js) should be different.

I also noticed that when you go to: http://www.theeclecticelement.com/search/label/fashion Shareoholic widget executes several GA tracking codes that send data to couple different GA Properties, for example:

UA-12964573-5
UA-48513475-1
UA-12964573-14
UA-12964573-15
UA-12964573-16

I would recommend removing that widget from your page or disable it. Here is how to do it:

http://support.shareaholic.com/hc/en-us/articles/201880333-How-do-I-turn-off-Third-Party-Data-Servic...

It's probably not causing any problems but still you're sharing your data with 3rd party widget provider.

I hope it helped Smiley Happy.
