Google Tag Manager - best way to implement video viewing on website

I am implementing the use of Google Analytics and Google Tag Manger on a company website (Drupal version 7). I am interested in measuring all engaging actions taken by the users. That is measuring all events and feed them into Google Analytics. I managed to cover more than 50% of all possible events on the website with GTM standard tools.

But what do i do to measure how long time users have been watching a video on the website? For example in intervals of 0-25%, 25-50%, 50-75% and 75%-100% of the video. Can You help me? I am willing to implement complicated GTM scripts if necessary.

Hi Mogens,

What type of video hosting do you use? (YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia etc)

1) YouTube video tracking guide: https://www.optimizesmart.com/youtube-video-tracking-via-google-tag-manager/

2) Vimeo video tracking guide: http://www.serpstone.com/magazine/vimeo-video-tracking-in-google-analytics-using-tag-manager/

3) Wistia video tracking guide: https://wistia.com/doc/google-analytics

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Taavi Kalvi

This is why such communities thrive. We are using YouTube, and today we implemented the script that you guided me towards. Fantastic. Thx alot!

Hi there, I have a question regarding this. Wistia says that events are tracked automatically but I would like to also set up goals for these events. We have a Wordpress page and host our 2 videos on wistia. One video I also placed on a landing page for an ad. I can't get my head around where I have to add what code to be able to see played video stats. Thanks for your help. Yulya
