Google Tag Manager Success/Thank You Page Visits - Magento Google Tag Manager Integration

I've installed Google Tag Manager through Magento Google Tag Manager Integration Extension in my Magento Ecommerce Website 72 hours ago.

My Product Purchase Confirmation Thank You/Success Page URL Example: http://www.(website domain name).com/checkout/onepage/success/

But, I'm seeing in my Google Universal Analytics reporting (Page Views) there's no page views/visits tracked for the above URL, while there should be 7 page views as I've got 7 sales from last 24 hours (means there're 7 unique page visits in the Success Page URL).

The page views are counted only upto My Cart page: http://www.(website domain name).com/checkout/cart/

- What's the problem? Please help to understand

Hey Arnav,

I'm not familiar with Magento but here are a few things to check up on:

#1 What are your firing rules for your Analytics tag? Is it "All Pages", have you included including this specific URL as well as a trigger?

#2 Have you tried QAing this by going in the Real-Time data section of Analytics while on /checkout/onepage/success/

#3 Is your traffic redirected to an outside payment page? If so you may be creating a new session when the person returns to your success page. Consider using a Referral Exclusion to prevent a new session from being created: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2795830?hl=en

Let me know if any of these help!

Hi Josh,

As per your question:

#1 What are your firing rules for your Analytics tag? Is it "All Pages", have you included including this specific URL as well as a trigger?

Ans: It's All Pages Views.

#2 Have you tried QAing this by going in the Real-Time data section of Analytics while on /checkout/onepage/success/

Ans: It's not possible only if I don't do a test purchase as this /checkout/onepage/success/ is only generated after a successful purchase.

Though I've QAed other page with Google Tag Managers All Page Views tag and they seems to be ok.

#3 Is your traffic redirected to an outside payment page? If so you may be creating a new session when the person returns to your success page. Consider using a Referral Exclusion to prevent a new session from being created: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2795830?hl=en

Ans: No, it's coming back to same thank you page. For example some one if purchases with Paypal it will come back to the domain thank you page http://www.(website domain name).com/checkout/onepage/success/(may contain other parameters).

While I had earlier installed only Google Analytics the Success page views were tracking fine.

If you're sending traffic to an outside, third-party payment processor like PayPal it can trigger a new session.

Try creating a "referral exclusion" of any payment sources like PayPal to see if this does the trick: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2795830
