I am looking for a way to give me views of ads on my wordpress site, I have the ads as widgets but have tried several plugins to receive a report of page views and clicks but have had no joy. Can anyone suggest anything?

Can you please provide more information about the advert widget? Which Wordpress plugin is it?

There is a Wordpress plugin that allows tracking clicks on specific elements as events, but currently your ads don't have any id or class selectors so we are unable to target them.

Hi,

You can track the clicks on the ads by adding event tracking code to the links:

<a href="http://externalsite.com" onclick="ga('send', 'event', 'ad', 'clicked', 'adName');">Your Ad</a>

You will see the data collected in GA under Behavior -> Events

Hope this helps let me know if you have questions.

Can you share your site URL or the ad code from your widget?

Thanks.

Hi,

Please let me know what widget ads do you need to track.

I checked your site and I found a problem with your tracking implementation - you have two tracking codes installed that causes duplicate pageviews and incorrect data in your reports. You have two Google Analytics plugins installed, Google Analyticator and GADWP Universal Tracking. You need to remove one of them in order to fix the issue.

Thanks, I have taken one of tracking codes out and have deactivated one of the plugins. I want to track ads along the right hand side and there will be more, and also need to know how to do this for another website I am rebuilding. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Unfortunately your site is still sending duplicate pageviews. Please go through your plugins, maybe you will be able to find out which plugin is responsible for sending the duplicate hit. It can also be your theme settings. You can use the Google Tag Assistant Chrome extension to check your tags.

Regarding the ad tracking, it seems that the ads are coded directly into the sidebar template, so you need to modify the code in the template.

This is one of the ad codes:

<a target="_blank" href='http://joneseng.com/' alt='Ad'><img src='http://planonline.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Joneswebsite-ad.gif' alt='Ad' /></a>

You need to modify it like this:

<a target="_blank" href='http://joneseng.com/' alt='Ad' onclick="ga('send', 'event', 'ad', 'clicked', 'adName');"><img src='http://planonline.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Joneswebsite-ad.gif' alt='Ad' /></a>

Let me know if you have questions.
