Goals with Funnel ( As required Step) not tracking right. Help me to solve it.

Hi All,

I have made a goal for tracking successful registration from a particular page ( i set this page as a required page) to complete this goal.

But tracking is not happening right..

I set a goal for this page - https://contentmart.com/my_orders

Required page for this goal to happen - https://contentmart.com/sign-up

That means, if a user coming to https://contentmart.com/my_orders page without visiting this page  https://contentmart.com/sign-up then no goal will be completed.

If visits https://contentmart.com/sign-up this page before visiting to https://contentmart.com/my_orders.

I hope you members of this community will me this out.

Thanks,

Rahul Setia

Can I ask what you mean by "tracking is not happening right"? What's wrong in your view?

A quick note on destination goal.

If you set the goal page to /myGoalPage/ and then you enable funnel with one step as /thisPriorStep/ and tick it as required, the goal on /myGoalPage/ will always fire , regardless of what path users took to the goal page. The funnel option will give you an additional view, a funnel view, and this view is available only in the Funnel Visualisation report.

So, in sum, a destination goal is independent of a funnel setup.

Hope it makes sense.

Yes, this is right, but if i want to track in that way as i mentioned then is there any solution in GA for that ?

If by that you mean that you want the goal on /my_orders to fire only if users see /sign-up prior to reaching /my_orders, then the answer is no. However, as I said, in Funnel Visualisation this is what you see. Then, across the other goals report and the other reports in GA, the goal count will not take into account the funnel.

Yes, this is what i want but you told this is not possible then if i want to track goals then better way is that need to place events on that page for registration tracking, right ?

What I'm saying is that when you set up a funnel, this funnel view applies to the Funnel Visualisation report only. In this report you will see the funnel flow as per your setup. This report is the only place where the funnel will apply.

Then, across all other GA reports, your destination goal will work as if there was no funnel enabled. It will be a count of hits on the goal page regardless of path taken to the goal.

Hope it's clear.
