GTM GA Enhanced Ecommerce Question

Hello,

I'm new to GTM and GA. I have a E-commerce website, and I have setup a tag in GTM using Universal Analytics which would fire when it detects the event addToCart. The event is pushed by a datalayer which I have set up in the codes. GA's Enhanced ECommerce feature is turned on.

My tag setup looks like this:

My datalayer looks like this:

dataLayer.push({
                    'event': 'addToCart',
                    'ecommerce': {
                        'currencyCode': 'USD',
                        'add': {
                            'products': [{
                                'name': 'product_A',
                                'id': 'product_id_1',
                                'price': '19.99',
                                'brand': '',
                                'category': '',
                                'variant': '',
                                'quantity': 1
                            }
                            ]
                        }
                    }
                }

GTM can detect the tag, and I can see the event addToCart in GA's Behavior>Event. May I know am I suppose to be able to see the datalayer information (i.e. product_a, product_id_1, 19.99, ... etc) in GA? If yes, may I know where should I look for them?

Am I suppose to configure the GTM tag to record those data?

Sorry for the novice question.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

G

You will not see those data in the Top Events report or in any Real-Time reports.

They will be available in the reports:

Conversions -> Ecommerce -> Shopping Analysis -> Shopping Behavior

Conversions -> Ecommerce -> Product Performance

Conversions -> Ecommerce -> Product List Performance

Those reports are not updated in real-time. Also, they will only make sense if you have configured other Enhanced Ecommerce features (Product views, Check-out, Product Lists).

Thank you! As the site is still in the development phase, i guess I will need to wait before i see more data. Any pointers on where I can read about setting up other Enhanced Commerce features?

Thanks again!

Hi,
Sorry for using an old thread but I'm trying to learn the Enhanced Ecommerce via GTM. Can you please explain how you decided to use the Value 5 for {{URL Path}}?
I have read the Guidelines so many times but don't see the connection between  {{URL Path}} and the Values to set for each.

Thanks!

Hi, Victoria L,

The {{URL Path}} can be set to anything (reasonable). In this case, for whatever reason, the user has chosen to set it to "5" for their particular site and page. In GA, the normal path will be overwritten with what you set in that field. Typically you would set the URL path to a virtual page view (VPV) that helps to identify that page in your reports - it could be because that page is a modal window, for example.

What kind of situation are you in where you need to set the page path?
