Enhanced eCommerce Impression and Purchase in GTM

Hi all,

I have implemented Enhanced Ecommerce as recommended by Google Tag Manager. I have seen a dramatic increase in page view numbers due to integration recommended by GTM. Each transaction and impression is sent as a page view. I was triggering purchase completed in order success page I have checked page view of order success page and there is 2 page view for each transaction.

Is there something I am missing?

Thanks

Hi,

You can easily debug on the website with GA debugger:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jnkmfdileelhofjcijamephohjechhna

You can check in chrome, console tab with 'Preserve log' turned ON.

Best Regards,
GA Guru.

'Star' or 'Accept as Solution' if it helped.

Somewhere in the configuration / in the GA code, you might have a pagview beacon being sent.

This is true but this is also recommended way by Google Tag Manager. They clearly stated that:

See the Tag Configuration for this Example.

Tag type : Universal Analytics
Track type : Pageview
Enable Enhanced Ecommerce Features: true
Use Data Layer: true
Basic Settings - Document Path: {{url path}}
Firing Rule: {{event}} equals gtm.dom

GTM recommends each impression and purchase should be send as a pageview.

see: https://developers.google.com/tag-manager/enhanced-ecommerce#purchases

What is the recommended way to send a purchase or impression to GA? As a pageview or transaction or timing?

Hi,

Ok. It says:
// Send transaction data with a pageview if available

Data should be sent with a pageview not as a page view. :-)

Ideally in your GTM settigns you will be having only one Universal analytics tag. Is that right in your case?

Hi,

Having only one Universal Tag should not be true. Please see the "See the Tag Configuration for this Example" sections, each section clearly states tag configurations.

Product Click:

Tag type : Universal Analytics
Track type : Event

Product Impression:

Tag type : Universal Analytics
Track type : Pageview

Different *tracking types* implies a new tag for each configuration.

Right. One Universal Analytics tag for page view.

I am triggering product impressions dynamically when a user see a product in the page. Will this cause another pageview in GA?

This is what you can easily debug on the website with GA debugger.
