Destination Goal Not Working Despite Trying The Normal Solutions

Hi,

I have a website which has moved from http to https recently and has two problems, the first one I believe is now fixed, but could also be a clue as to why problem number two has come about.

ONE

I was struggling with the pages report showing the domain as:

/domain.com

I believe I have fixed this by going to Admin > View Settings > and leaving the default page field blank.

TWO

My problem now is my destination page goal is not working.  The real time report shows it can see me, but when I trigger the goal it will not track.  This was working on the previous site when it was on http, but now it doesn't.

The URL I am trying to track is:

I have put this in the 'goal destination is equal to' field - /thank-you-email-confirmation/

I have tried the normal things to see why the goal isn't working:

- the goal page definitely has GA tracking on it
- double checked the trailing slashes which are not an issue as you can see above

What else could be causing the problem?  Maybe it could be something to do with the https setup in GA since we moved from HTTP?

Any responses are gratefully received!

Thanks

Hey Emma,

Let's see if we can fix your issues!

#1

Can you go into a little more detail regarding your first problem?

If you have duplicate data you can use the Find & Replace function

#2

You do not need to include your entire domain for a goal, just make sure it 'contains' : "/thank-you-email-confirmation/

Try this and see if it works. Remember to look in Google Analytics Real-Time events AND to QA with Google Tag Assistant.

Lastly if you're using Webmaster Tools (Search Console) , make sure to update your sitemap and your canonical and hreflang tags.

Hi Josh,

Thanks so much for replying!  I really appreciate it.

-- So we rebuilt the website and launched it, and I noticed in my Google Analytics pages report instead of getting the normal /contact-us listed with the pageview data etc. it was listing my URLs like this -  /contact-us/www.my-domain-name.com   I thought it was strange that it was appending it with the domain name.  I think I may have now fixed this with the fix I did which I have listed in the original post on here.  I'm waiting for the data to come through to see if it's stopped it.

You do not need to include your entire domain for a goal, just make sure it 'contains' : "/thank-you-email-confirmation/

-- I have only had the folder path in the destination field as you suggested so I'm still a bit puzzled as to why this goal tracking isn't working.

Any help much appreciated Josh!
