Cross-Domain-Tracking & AdWords Channel eCommerce Tracking

Hello togehter,

we implemented the Cross-Domain-Tracking Code for several Domains:

www.ellen.de (onlineshop),  www.scheidenpilz-vorsorge.de (landingpage), etc. - the tracking Code seems to work.

Also we started an Adwords Campaign and we activated the ecommerce Tracking.

If we link the Adwords to the onlineshop everything works.
Ads -> Shop www.ellen.de  -> Analyitcs: Channel  - PaidSearch with Conversion "E-Commerce" and "revenue"

But if we link the Adwords at first to the Landingpage and afterwards from the Landingpage to the Shop the Channel "Direct" is displayed.

Ads -> Landingpage .www.scheidenpilz-vorsorge.de -> Button -> Shop www.ellen.de -> Analyitcs: Channel - Direct with Conversion "E-Commerce" and "revenue".

In this Case we can't optimize the AdWords Campaign.
What can we do to get the Channel "Paid Search" instead of "Direct"?

The Linking from LP to Shop seems to be fine.

Enclosed the cross-domain-Tracking Code:

Shop: www.ellen.de

<script type="text/javascript">
(function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){
(i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o),
m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m)
})(window,document,'script','//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga');

ga('create', 'UA-19031169-1', 'auto', {'allowLinker': true});
ga('set', 'anonymizeIp', true);
ga('require', 'linker');
ga('linker:autoLink', ['intimgesundheit.info','scheidenpilz-vorsorge.de','vaginose-info.de' ]);
ga('require', 'displayfeatures');
ga('set', 'forceSSL', true);
ga('send', 'pageview');
</script>

Landingpage: www.scheidenpilz-vorsorge.de

<script type="text/javascript">
(function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){
(i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o),
m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m)
})(window,document,'script','//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga');
ga('create', 'UA-19031169-1', 'auto', {'allowLinker': true});
ga('set', 'anonymizeIp', true);
ga('require', 'displayfeatures');
ga('require', 'linker');
ga('linker:autoLink', ['intimgesundheit.info','ellen.de','vaginose-info.de' ]);
ga('send', 'pageview');
</script>

Have you added both domains to Referral Exclusion List?

A quick question - by looking at the above code, the UA-ID is the same for both domains. Is that correct?

Hi,

we add the Landingpages to teh Referral Exclusion List:
scheidenpilz-vorsorge.de, intingesundheit.info and vagionse-info.de.
But we didn`t add the shop - ellen.de.
Now i will add also ellen.de to the list

I think UA-Id should be the same. Here i have orientated myself to this description:

Hi Florian,

You're right. You need to use the same tracking id for both websites.

I tested your implementation and it seems to me that now it works properly (session doesn't change if you move from one website to another and vice versa).

If you do not add all of the domains you set in your Auto Link Domains variable (intimgesundheit.info, scheidenpilz-vorsorge.de, vaginose-info.de, ellen.de) to your referral exclusion list, your cross-domain tracking will not work as expected. That was the case if one of the domains were not added.

Here you can see that now it works properly:

1. scheidenpilz-vorsorge.de

2. scheidenpilz-vorsorge.de -> ellen.de (session didn't change)

3. ellen.de -> scheidenpilz-vorsorge.de (session didn't change)

Hope this helps. Well done Florian!

The UA-ID should be the same, you're correct. I just wanted to double check that was the case.

Glad it's fixed.
