Creating Goal on form submission when form thank you is not unique page / URL

Hi

A friend of mine has asked for help with setting up conversion goals. I thought sure, easy but no. She already has general google analytics set up on site.

The website uses the form tool within their off-the-shelf theme. When you click submit on the form, the thank you message is generated on the same page, in place of the form.

The URL that renders is not the same for each thank you - a unique URL is created for each individual submission.

I thought to set up the goal with only the standard / static part of the link but this isn't working:

This is the form: http://www.looksfresh.com.au/free-photography-quote/

This is an example of the full url generated on submit:

http://www.looksfresh.com.au/free-photography-quote/?contact-form-id=15697&contact-form-sent=18447&_...

This is the unique URL that was generated:

http://www.looksfresh.com.au/free-photography-quote/?contact-form-id=15697&contact-form-sent=

This is the URL I put in the goal:

/free-photography-quote/?contact-form-id=15697&contact-form-sent=

In Goal Set up I used the Template and selected "Get Estimate", the Type was "Destination".

What am I missing?

I know if I used a program such as Contact Forms 7 then I can use a Java Script workaround (http://contactform7.com/tracking-form-submissions-with-google-analytics/) and Events for a contact form with out a separate thank you, but I can't find help for any other type of form program.

If I can't use Goals, would Google Tag Manager be an alternative?

Thank you in advance.

Kristin

PS I just searched for the form in the Google Analytics Pages report to see if it is being tracked and the URL format in the report is different to what is showing in address bar:

So I am going to set up a different Goal with this strange URL and see what happens while I wait for replies to above.

Thank you so much

Glad it worked! I was going to suggest a virtual page view via GTM - http://www.lunametrics.com/blog/2014/09/10/fire-virtual-pageview-google-tag-manager/
