Analytics Ecommerce integration to shopify

Hi Analytics community,

I am hoping for some help with setting up my Ecommerce tracking on my Shopify account.

Currently I have implemented the GA tracking code (universal) and turned on enhance ecommernce (both in GA account and shopify) as per Shopify's insutrctions;

https://help.shopify.com/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/google-analytics-setup#enable...

My dilemma is that GA is recording all user interactions, however has no conversions recorded at all.  The page visits are to pages such as:

/cart

/checkout/contact_information

/checkout/shipping

(other pages within online store)

However there is no '/checkout/thank_you' or anything similar.

So, when I set up a goal through GA with a destination URL as '/checkout/thank_you' - the verification returns 0%.  Looking extensively at online solutions, I have confused myself as to whether I need subdomain code or additional ecommerce code (which I am not sure where to implement within the shopify page - online store > preferences, or settings > checkout).

Shopify states that nothing beyond selecting 'enhanced ecommerce' and completing their steps (via the link above) is required to ensure ecommerce is tracked.  However I am beginning to believe I need to implement something further - I am just not sure what, or where.

Anyone experience something similar and discover a solution?

Thanks!

Hi @David B ,

Have you implemented e-commerce tracking? This resources might be useful

Hi Seb,

Thanks for the response to my issue.

I have implemented ecommerce tracking (both through Shopify and Analytics).  I had already found two of the links (the demo, and Enhanced Ecommerce on GA developers), and found them to potentially be really useful...if I could edit the code on my Shopify online store.  It seems that Shopify assert their control over users of their store platforms by restricting user access from editing the code.

I have viewed other Shopify stores code (CTL + U in Chrome) and can identify that they have the proper GA tracking code, in addition to 'linker' code set up for their pages.  However when I view my respective code, there is no evidence of the copy and pasted GA tracking code - even though I went through the Shopify process of 'copy and pasting the code into their Online Store > Preferences' area.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi @David B,

Apologies for late reply!

Maybe try contacting Shopify about that issue? Unfortunately I am not familiar how they implementation works and with their system. I checked quickly here: https://www.shopify.co.uk/ so it looks it's e-commerce platfrom with their own reporting too. Hence, it makes sense that you can't add your Google Analytics code on their platform - you can only do it for domains / websites that you own. When you see GA tracking code, it's with another tracking code ID (owned by Shopify probably), so that's why you can't see data. However it may be worth asking them to give you access to GA they've implemented, so you can check performance...Sorry I coldn't help more!

Just wondering if you figured this out already? If not, could you let me know what Shopify plan you're currently running? The domain you're running on? Might be able to give you a hand.

Thanks
