Adding Property URL - Best practice to track all of it at one place

Hi there,

What's the best practice to add a property URL if you want to track all of it at one place? I currently have support for both https:// and http://, so should I http or https? Also, do we add the website name as domain.com or www.domain.com? In total, there could be four combinations of http://, https:// with domain.com and www.domain.com. The goal is to have one single property which tracks all of it at one place. Kind of like the superset of all properties. Which URL would that be?

Thanks for all your help in advance,

Sid

P.S. - Not sure if this the correct Board but adding property discussions did not fit in any of the options.

Hi,

Yes, you need to put your preferred domain to the property settings as the default URL.

Hi,

Google prefers https so go with it and choose your preferred version of the domain (with or without https. Set your preferred domain in search console and 301 redirect all the other versions to the preferred domain.

Thanks Arnold! My actual question is about adding Property in Analytics not Search Console. Are you saying that after having 301 redirects to the preferred domain name, we put the preferred domain name in Analytics as the property?
