Ad Content showing "NOT SET" in AD GOALS

Hi,

I created a URL via the Campaign URL Builder  and also created a Goal in google analytics - this is to see if I have purchase conversions from a Facebook group

After several test via a facebook group. My goal conversions show up on GoogleAnalytics/Acquisitions/All Traffic/ Source&Medium  as I can see results from

- facebook.com/ referral = Goal conversion =1 (I paid with credit card)

mpi.braspag.com.br / referral = 3 (I paid with debit card and a password was sent to me from my bank)

However there are two problems:

Problem 1: When I put the secondary dimension "ad content" in Google Analytics it shows "Not Set" and I have triple checked that this field was filled out in the Campaign URL Builder.

Problem 2: why is " mpi.braspag.com.br / referral" showing up when the source/medium in the Campaign URL builder was set to Facebook?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

/Steph

Hi,

It's great to hear that it's working for now. Smiley Happy

Here's the spreadsheet that I use: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoVe2Z0gstFDdFl0ZlFfRktTbE9VTjkyR0RLeHV1dkE#gid=1

File -> Make a copy

Yes, for instance, you can use utm_medium=twitter as well in the URL.

Here's the great guide that I recommend reading: http://www.annielytics.com/guides/definitive-guide-campaign-tagging-google-analytics/

Hope this helps.

Hi Steph,

Could you please share the URL that you used where the UTM parameters are attached at the end of it? We'll take a look at it. Smiley Happy

If you see facebook.com / referral in the source / medium report it's an indication that those visitors have not come to your site through the link containing UTM parameters or either Facebook has cut them off somehow (I have seen it before) or there's something wrong with the URL containing UTM parameters (redirect happens or whatever). That's why you don't see ad content in GA as well.

You see mpi.braspag.com.br / referral in the reports because it's a third-party payment processor. You should add "braspag.com.br" to the referral exclusion list and conversions will not be attributed to mpi.braspag.com.br in the future and you'll see a real source / medium.

Here you can read more about referral exclusions: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2795830?hl=en

Recommend reading those 2 topics as well (might help you even more):

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Taavi,

Thank you for your reply. I have added "braspag.com.br" to the referral exclusion.

This is the URL with UTM: https://www.riocarnivaltickets.com/product/test-product/?v=fee7c26cbd93&utm_source=facebook+group+so...

Any advice to why "Not Set" is showing in the Ad Content column as secondary dimension?

see here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3VMJpI_cSQHNlhINUhXOUlVdmM/view?usp=sharing

Thanks in advance.

Hi again,

Good job!

Link with the UTM parameters seems to be OK.

When did you post this URL to the Facebook group? (Have you select the appropriate date range in Google Analytics?)

Couldn't find the right values in your report right now (you shared the image) that's why I am asking.

You should see something like that:

Source: facebook group source

Medium: facebook test medium

Campaign: test tickets sales

Search term: no paid

Ad content: discount

A great way how to test it is to go to your website through this link and then open you Google Analytics account Real-Time report -> Traffic sources.

Could you see yourself there and the right parameter values that I mentioned above?

This should look like that:

source.png

If you see that, everything should be fine. Keep in mind, data processing latency is 24-48 hours in Google Analytics so you'll see those values in your common reports a bit later, not immediately.

"Not set" and facebook.com / referral indicates that those visitors haven't come to your site through this link that you mentioned above. If you click on this link on Facebook, are the campaign parameters still in the URL if you land on your website?

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Taavi,

I wanted to thank you for your thorough description/explanation.

It seems to be working now (-:

I guess I can create as many UTMs as I want on the Campaign URL Builder. Is there a way of saving these automatically?

Meanwhile I will save it manually on a spreadsheet.

I can also put such URL on any other medium (Twitter, affiliate websites etc..), correct?

Thanks so much Taav!
