utm_Source not recognized on subdomain.Site.com

If I test browse to:

OurSite.com?utm_source=Test  and then browse away and come back, gAnalytics shows the utm_source as Test.

But if I browse to a subdomain.OurSite.com  gAnalytics shows utm_source as unknown (not set).

I can then come back to OurSite.com and utm_source is correctly shown in gAnalytics.

Subdomain.Oursite.com is hosted on a different server (from OurSite.com)

Could that cause this?
If so, any suggestions how I can fix it?

The historical data for yesterday shows the correct Source/Medium.

So, the problem appears to be that Real-Time view does not show the Source/Medium correctly.  (or I was somehow misusing the Real-Time View.

Hi @MrAnalogy it mostly depends on where the cookie is written and how the GA tracking is set up.

1) Using Universal?

2) Is cookieDomain set to auto?

3) are both main and sub domain tracked inside a single GA property?

If you could post the site in question that would really help in debugging efforts.

Kind regards,

so you tried

Subdomain.Oursite.com?utm_source=test

or did you go to

Oursite.com?utm_source=test

and then navigated to subdomain?

I was testing with Real-time Analytics.

However, today I looked at the historical Analytics from yesterday and it shows Source/Medium on the subdomain for some of the pageviews.

So... could this be an anomaly with the Real-time stats?

I will retest today.

I've also answered Zorin's questions below.

Yes. Analytics.js

2) Is cookieDomain set to auto?

I think so.  here is the code in the Head section  of every page:

I think the bolded section does should set cookie domain to auto, (according to this page)  right?

ga('create', 'UA-95958-1', 'auto', {'allowLinker': true});
ga('require', 'linker');
ga('linker:autoLink', ['bungalowsoftware.com','coolcart.net','chargevault.com','cheddargetter.com'] );
ga('send', 'pageview');

3) are both main and sub domain tracked inside a single GA property?

Hmm... I only see the main domain in the Properies & Apps.

If you could post the site in question that would really help in debugging efforts.

I'll include the full info:

 Please note, only the home page and the pages specified below have the new tracking code.

Main site:

http://www.BungalowSoftware.com

Secondary Site (which has cross domain scripting enabled)

http://www.MoreSpeech.com

Subdomain that's not showing the utm_source:

http://webapp.morespeech.com/webapp/chg_newcustomer.php

Test Path (I just pasted each link into the browser and looked at Live analytics)

http://www.MoreSpeech.com?utm_source=Test11a

    Live analytics shows utm source propertly

http://webapp.morespeech.com/webapp/chg_newcustomer.php

  Live analytics shows no value set for utm_source

I tried the first:

Oursite.com?utm_source=test

Then browsed to subdomain.oursite.com  and saw no Source.

However, see my other reply today. I saw no Source in the Realtime analytics, but historical for yesterday shows source for SOME of the pageviews.

FYI, I'm testing again today.

http://www.morespeech.com/?utm_medium=test11b&utm_source=test11b
http://webapp.morespeech.com/webapp/chg_newcustomer.php

Realtime view shows no Source for second page:

BUT maybe tomorrow the historical data will show the results.

I'll report back tomorrow.
