getting referral traffic for sub-domain (which is pointed to main domain)? Why?

Hello,

We have launched a subdomain (abc.domain.com).

Inorder to track the traffic to that subdomain (abc.domain.com), we have created a separate view for that in google analytics under the main domain (domain.com).

While checking traffic for the sub-domain (abc.domain.com) , it got traffic from referral source(xyz.com) which is no way related or linked with this sub-domain(abc.domain.com). The specific referral(xyz.com) was just linked to our main domain (domain.com).

May I know what causes these type of referral traffic to our subdomain?

By default, a referral automatically triggers a new session. When you exclude a referral source, traffic that arrives to your site from the excluded domain doesn’t trigger a new session.

Hello,

Thanks for the link. I have checked, but still it wasn't clear or didn't provide any answer related to the above question.
