In creating a new segment, under Behavior what is the difference between "session duration per user" and "session duration per session".

Also, are there caveats to look out for if I'm combining demographic data and behavior data, e.g., all millennials from North America who have more than 2 sessions and session duration is more than 5 mins and has at least 3 sessions in a week.

Thanks lots in advance.

Hi,

Average session duration per session = Total duration of all sessions (sec) / number of sessions.
Average session duration per user =Total duration of all sessions (sec) / Number of unique users

You can setup a segment for everything except for condition that user have at least 3 sessions in a week. http://take.ms/GeUNp. Make sure not to put too many conditions as it dramatically increase the segment load time.

For 3 or more sessions in a week, can't i do within Behavior:

Days since last session <= 2

Hi,

you can not use days since last session <=2 for what you want to track. For 3 or more sessions in a week you can use two ways.

First is by using count of sessions in conditional segments and the screenshot is http://take.ms/jFYb2

to see the data for a week you will have to change the date range.

second is by using the first session and selecting the date ranges. this will display the number of first sessions within the date range. also add the above conditional segment with this. http://take.ms/ODd8b

hope this helped you

Thanks lots Norman.

For let us say past 2 months, where i am interested in users with sessions of at least 3 or more per week, then there is no way to really do it?

Below is probably the best that we can do:

date of first session is on or after September 1

sessions >= 24 (assuming there were 8 weeks in sept & oct)

days since last session <= 2

Hi,

sorry for the late reply, first thing to note is you can not select date of first session range more than one month. you can only check for 30 days data. the segment would be like

data of first session between sep 1st to sep 30

session >= 12

Thanks lots Norman.

So there is no way of creating a segment of users who have had over the past 2 months done:

3 or more sessions per week

session duration >= 5 mins

hi Indranil,

there is not any way of doing exactly like this. 3 or more sessions per week in a date range of 2 months. what you can do is either select the date range weekly. use conditional segment to track session duration >=5.

hope this helped you Smiley Happy
