Youtube traffic showing as direct instead of referral

I recently noticed that Youtube referral traffic is showing up in our Google Analytics account as direct traffic rather than referral traffic. Specifically, the links to our site are typically at the beginning of the video description for fairly popular Youtube live events. I noticed that we were not receiving any Youtube referral traffic, so I did a test and confirmed that it was registering as direct.

Is this something that I can fix without tagging the links?

Just wanted to jump on and say I noticed the same issue for us. There is no referral traffic from YouTube showing. Previously, YouTube referral would show up in Google Analytics account without having to tag links.

Searching for a solution... I'll post if I come across anything.

Please see this similar post:

I discovered the issue is that the traffic from YouTube will show direct because the link from YouTube is from an HTTPS site to our HTTP site.

Looks like the best solution I can tell is to go through our YouTube account and tag the links.

Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks for passing that along!
