Why sampling has not been applied? (~650K visit per month)

Hi

i see dramatic difference between GA and Piwik platforms (Piwik shows 40% higher statistics)

a site with average ~30k sessions and ~200K pageView per day.

for such a workload does the GA sampling applies on daily/monthly reporting ?

why could be the root cause of difference among the platfomrs?

Thanks

Hi Farid,

this highly depends on the count of sessions you look inside one time range - pre aggregated reports will usually not be prone to sampling but by adding segments, using secondary dimensions or using custom reports the 500k limit will usually kick in.

For a more thorough explanation of the sampling behaviour inside GA please refer to https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2637192?hl=en and https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1042498?hl=en.

The diferrence in count between piwik and GA - is the difference the same for pageviews or for sessions / users or both?

difference is in both of them based on below picture for a one month period.

16% visits

10% on users

22% on page view

There could be numerous reasons of this - first being the difference in the technical implementation. Not sure if piwik is less / more / same prone to adblockers. Session handling differences could also be the reason - time, cross domain and similar.
