What's the best practice for a Goal Funnel with cross-domain tracking ?

I'm using cross-domain tracking.

So I could get a pageview   /index.htm and it could be from:

Domain1.com

or

Domain2.com

Goal Pageview only select based on the page filename.

If I set up a Goal funnel how do I differentiate between the two domains?

Assume one alternate domain has the initials ms, so I'd like to prefix all those pages with /ms/

I'm thinking I made need to set up a fake prefix  for the alternate domains (or maybe for all of them?)

So I could update the tracking code to be:

ga('send', 'pageview', '/ms/'+location);

any downsides to that?

Any thoughts on that?

Hi @MrAnalogy :-)
Usual best practice when cross domain tracking is to create a new View and apply the following filter:

  • Filter Type: Custom filter > Advanced
  • Field A: Hostname Extract A: (.*)
  • Field B: Request URI Extract: (.*)
  • Output To: Request URI Constructor: $A1$B1

Click Save to create the filter.

(it prepends the hostname to the Request URI in the reports so as to be able to tell which site a pageview occurs on etc. ..and also in doing this it allows for the setup of destination goals and funnels where steps may occur on different domains)

yep, I saw that.

Does that mean that the "path" will include the domain?

Or does that just show up in the filter?

Have you tried that yourself?

Thanks!
