View Settings - Default Page

Hello All!

My client would like to roll-up her homepages but they come in 2 formats.  I read that setting the default page is the way to resolve this but it doesn't provide information on if there are multiple homepages for roll-up.

Here is what I mean: www.xxxx.com/home and www.xxxx.com/index.hmtl she would like these grouped as www.xxx.com.  How do I go about combining these?  Should I used filtering or set the Default page?

Thanks for the help!

Audrey

Hi Audrey,

I threw this together quickly so please test in preview.  Smiley Happy

I have not had luck adding images lately so just in case there are none here, this is the reference:

Hope that helps.  Smiley Happy

Hi Audrey,

Best solution is to handle this on the server side in htaccess or iis so that they all point to the same page. Second best way is to add a lookup table in GTM and fire virtual pageviews of "/" if the pages match the above. If not using GTM, then you have to use search and replace filters as the default page setting will not work in the way you want. You could set is as / home or as /index.shtml and then the simple / would become one of those. This is problematic; however, as all trailing slashes are now appended with/home or /index.shtml. E.g. xxxx.com/products/ would become /products/home or /products/index.shtml.

If you have to go the least desirable route, here is a reference for you:

Hi Theo,

Thank you so much for replying to me! My client uses GTM but I'm not
familiar with it. I am trying to learn the ins and outs of GTM and need a
bit more help with the step of creating a Lookup Table. Are you able to
guide me?

Thanks again for the answer!

Best,
Audrey

Hi Theo,

You are a lifesaver! This is exactly what I'm looking for. The screen shots really helped. I think I'm starting to understand how GTM works. I'm familiar with Adobe's DTM solution but the naming conventions are different.

Thank you again for the screenshots and the immense help Smiley Happy

Best,
Audrey

I would set up a 301 redirect to either index.html or /home. I would then set the default page accordingly. I hope that helps. Let me know if you need additional information on setting that up.
