Users/Pageviews numbers decreasing over time

Hey everyone,

We're using the Google API to update our CMS with basic tracking information from Analytics, and bumping into a strange issue.

If we have Analytics report to us the number of uniques from a prior day (such as yesterday) at 9am and then update that number at 5pm, the number of uniques and pageviews has often decreased over the course of a day.

Anyone know how that would be possible? Why would users and page views be decreasing over time on a day that's past?

Thanks.

Although you can get real-time statistics from Google Analytics, there is still some daily processing that occurs, and Google suggests you wait 24 hours for stable numbers. The Users metric is a key one - they have to process all the sessions for the day and deduplicate them to get the count accurate. It usually drops as the processing removes the duplicates.
