URL Builder not generating a new campaign

Hi there,

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong sub-forum. I've been using the Campaign URL builder to track the specific referrals and acquisitions on links from my work's socials and have had no problems from May until last week. However, now both the shortened and long versions of the URLs are directing to a page not found, and the campaigns are no longer showing up properly in Google Analytics (Posts from Facebook themselves are but the actual campaign breakdown isn't working). I've changed nothing about how I input the source, medium, or campaign name. Can anyone help? Thanks. Below are examples of the URLs I've generated that should have been, but weren't tracked properly.

Hey Sadhbh,

A few things:

#1 - I don't see you properly using the (&) sign to separate your UTM parameters. Why is this?

#2 - Why are you relying so heavily on the (%) sign. While this is not necessarily a problem it can sometimes create problems.

#3 - Carefully using link shortners as they can remove your UTM tagging.

Let me know if this helps!

Hi Josh,

Sorry - I posted the URL that it then led to, not the original version if that makes sense. This is another example http://www.peopletree.co.uk/new-in/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Post&utm_content=06022017

and shortened https://goo.gl/24D3xB

Both lead to broken links even though the original url (www.peopletree.co.uk/new-in) works fine.

I also had an error message show up a couple of weeks ago but I can't remember what it said.

Thanks!

Hey Sadhbh,

The issue with your link is that it includes a slash at the end (/) which for some reason causes your website to create a 404 error.

This is a structural issue with your website's design. I recommend you set a DNS redirect or a 301 redirect whenever someone adds a slash in the link.

Additionally, Matt Cutts has stated that while not very critical he prefers to end a link with a slash then without since this indicates its a folder and not a file. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTrdP7lJ2HU

Let me know if this answers your question!
