TripAdvisor CPC referral traffic reported as direct

We use the TripAdvisor TripConnect CPC program to send traffic to our 3rd party checkout site. TripAdvisor opens the booking engine line (3rd party checkout) in a new tab but all of this traffic is recorded as direct. The GA suppgaort team has thoroughly reviewed the code on my site (beaverlakefrontcabins.com) and the 3rd party checkout site and says it's properly implemented.

TripAdvisor is an https site, but so is the 3rd party checkout site (WebRezPro's booking engine). My site is not.

1) Any ideas why this might be happening?

2) In general, is it the case than anytime an https: site links to an http: site the referrer info will not be sent and will show up as direct in GA? If so, is the reverse true, http to https?

Any help would be appreciated.

The TripAdvisor website has SSL and your website does not.
In most cases when you go from SSL to non SSL website information about referring website is not passed. In effect you see direct traffic in reports.

Traffic from http to https website is tracked correctly.
