Tracking servers that access my site

Visitor ✭ ✭ ✭

Is there a way to track servers that are accessing my website? I would like to find out how many of my visitors are from a university or the government, for example.

From your example, I think you mean identifying service providers, so you can tell what visitors are from universities, the government, etc.

Its not perfect of course, but you can get a good estimate by looking at your visitor's network domain.  Here is a quick example.  On the left-hand menu:

1. Click on Network and leave Service Provider as the dimension.

2. Select Network Domain as the Secondary dimension.

Now you can filter on .edu, .gov, .gov.my, or whatever you would like.

If this is the kind of data you are looking for, you can segment your visitors based on their Network Domain.
