Site Traffic Showing as YouTube

Hi there,

I was looking at our analytics and was surprised by the 4,000% increase in traffic, so I checked which pages were getting the most hits. Attached shows a screenshot of Behaviour / Site Content / All Pages which surely only shows pages on our main website?

However, when I click on these specific URLs, I get an error page: http://isodesign.co.uk/channel/UCdXt7p87TACktAyRguzr4Wg

After a quick Google search, I added 'hostname' as a secondary dimension to discover these were our own YouTube URLs. We currently have a video which is getting a lot of hits on YouTube so it makes sense our traffic has increased by this much.

However, some of the URLs don't make sense, like this one which doesn't belong to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK09g6gYGMvU-0x1VCF1hgA

Also, does anyone know why our YouTube traffic is showing in the analytics for our main website?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Kim

Hi Kim,

Yes.  And you've added your GA Property id to the youtube account; hence the increase in GA data. Yes?

Hi Iso,

Is it possible that the property was recently added to your Google Analytics account? You would usually want to use a different property for this.

Hi Theo,

Thanks for your response. This property has been active for over 5 years.

The only fairly recent (and I imagine completely separate) thing I have done is create a YouTube account and add some of our videos to it.

Faithfully,

Kim

Hi Theo,

Erm, no. I don't even know how to do that. The YouTube account does use the same email as the analytics account. Could Google have added it themselves automatically?

Best,

Kim

Hi Again Theo,

I've checked and AdSense was linked to GA properties for some reason. I definitely did not action this so no idea how that happened.

Thanks for your help,

Kim
