Referral traffic all shows as direct in GA

Hello,

Around mid-November, my referral traffic flatlined and my direct traffic increased dramatically. With the help of a friend, I have figured out that all referral traffic from other sites, Facebook, Pinterest, and Google+ all shows as direct now. (Twitter works for some reason.)

I have not changed anything, to my knowledge, that would cause this. I'm stumped!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Cindy,

We might be running into a similar issue (if not I apologize for hijacking your thread). I'm seeing a lot of referral traffic as direct traffic but with the page path appended with ?referrer=https://www.google.com/ (or some other referral site). I'm also trying to figure out why this is happening as it makes proper analysis very difficult.

A bit more research turned up the possibility of it being traffic referred from an https site to an http site. Perhaps that's your issue (it seems to be mine).

I read about the https to http issue too, but I can't imagine that would be it. It started suddenly and most other mom bloggers I know don't have https and they aren't having problems.
