Referral coming in as direct for several of my sites-Not https to http

Hi guys!

So I have been all over the place trying to figure this out! I have my developer looking into also and so far unsure why we are see what we see!

Around Oct/Nov GA shows a large decrease in referral track for one of my sites and during that exact time a large increase in direct. My first thought was to check to see if the site that sends 95% of my referral traffic lost links or is no longer in the SERPs and that was not the case. They looked perfect. No change in http either. Then I noticed it was not just one site in my GA account but about 8. I have about 40 sites. My next thought is to find a common denominator between those sites. Well nothing. We recently launched a new tag management system(not Googles) and pushed each site live on different schedules(sometimes 3-4 at time) but that is not matching up to the sites I have listed as effected. I am starting to think more then just 8 are effected but its not as obvious.

Wondering if someone can tell me where else to look! The reason this is so important for me is because the sites where I get 95% of my referral traffic also sent a huge portion of our leads. We have a separate platform that measures our leads and I know we did not really loose our referral traffic because my leads are still good, but GA data is crucial because I am unable to see how well we are doing from a visits perspective or page by page analysis.

Help! Thank you, thank you!

-Sam

Hi Samantha :-)

Are you able to possibly provide a link to the affected site, and the url of one of the lead sites?

Hi Samantha :-)
No need to post the information publically, I completely understand.
Sometimes it is helpful to be able to look at the sites and the tracking code implementation via browser
