Real-Time or anykind Events are not showing up

Hi.

We were using the old google analytics (_gaq). We could see events in the Real-Time overview. So everything was working fine. Now we decided to switch over to Google Tag Manager and Universal. We have tested the tags with preview mode, we can see that Tags are being triggered, we see collect requests in Network area of browser. If we use GA extension we can see that Events are being fired. But however we, do not see any events in the Analytics. We can trigger as many events as we want, they are not showing up in the overview. Is there an explanation to this weird behaviour.

We are mostly triggering the custom events so:

dataLayer.push({'event': 'myEvent1'});

And we are reading the Category, Action and Label from data attribute of the clicked element, so for this we are using custom javascript, we split the values by ":", and fill the Custom Variable in GTM.

<a href="#" data-ga="Category:Action:Label">My link</a>

function() {
    var elem = {{element}},
    attr = 'data-ga',
    result = (elem.getAttribute && elem.getAttribute(attr)) || undefined;

    var attrVal = elem.getAttribute(attr),
    attrValParts = attrVal.split(':');

    return attrValParts.length ? {
        category: attrValParts[0], // set category
        action: attrValParts[1], // set action
        label: attrValParts[2] // set label
    } : undefined;
}

Hi Danijel,

did you use preview/debug mode in Google Tag Manager? Within Preview mode you could easily track not only if event fires but also check the values of dataLayer fields and custon variables at each step. Read more on Preview mode here https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/6107056?hl=en

Hi.

Yes I have used preview/debug mode. And I can see Tags fire up, Data Layer fields are there and also Variables are there that I am using. I also see "collect" in network area of Chrome Browser. But there are no Events in Analytics.

"It Shouldn't be this Way"

could you please share some screenshots of your configuration in GTM and preview logs?

I suppose there are no filters applied to the view you're looking at?

Ok I made some screens from Preview mode. We have two views in analytics. One is internal and one external views. This was already working before, we moved to Universal. So we are always checking Internal views, when we are testing on Development and Staging.

Danijel,

Could you check that custom DataTracker fields are sent properly within ec, ea and el parameters within event tag?
