QR codes and Google Analytics

Hi,

I have created a QR code without utm parameters and would like to know how to track the logs via this QR code on Google Analytics.

If not possible, would these logs appear on Google Analytics as a standard user session?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Fanny

Hi Sofia,

Yes, you can track qr code scans.

You have to make sure that you add utm parameters to your URL. You can use the utm builder https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033867?hl=en for the code generation (e.g. "qr_code" as medium). Then use the URL with the parameters for creating the qr code or use an url shortener and create the code for the shortened url. The last option is more flexible as it allows you to change the url as your pleasure, but you have to make sure that the shortening service continues to be supported over time.

When people scan the code, you will find the qr code sessions in Google Analytics under Acquisition -> Source / Medium.
