Please help explain homepage reporting

Hi all,

 

I am sure there is a simple explanation for this, but looking at my reporting data I am confused at what I am seeing.

If I look at Site Content > All Pages

 

I see number 1 being '/' - this being the root of my homepage I presume?

I see number 2 being 'www.domain.co.uk/' - since this is the same page as '/' why are they split in reporting?

 

What is happening here?

FYI i have a filter to prepend hostnames since i also want to report on a sub-domain within the same data (not sure that affects what we are seeing here though?)

Most likely you are seeing referral spam fake visits that have no hostname values (they don't know your hostname because they never actually visit your website).
You should consider creating a valid hostname filter to prevent it. There are several articles available on the topic, including:
