Pageviews under-reported vs internal metrics
I have a client with a custom Rails application used for content creation among other things. We built in very basic pageview tracking in addition to adding Google Analytics.
The top 5 most-trafficked posts from the last 3 months show our internal pageview tracking 50-120% higher than Google Analytics (it's not consistent). It seems too high to be explained by JS being shut off, cookies turned off, or ads blocked (or even the combination) though I don't have good data to back up that assumption. Our testing shows that each system seems to be tracking as expected. I'm at a loss to explain the discrepancy. Extensive searching has lead to no promising leads, either. We're considering adding another third party tracker so we have another data point.
