One Day Traffic Drop

Our GA shows that our website traffic had a sudden drop of 50% only for one day. Could this be an erro of Analytics reporting?

Some investigation I've done:

  • there was steady traffic throughout the day, and page loading time was also normal, suggesting no server issue
  • traffic dropped across all channels, but organic and paid search's loss were the highest percentage
  • Search analytics on Webmasters tool did not show a drop in either clicks nor impressions

Hi Tina,

This can be due to many reasons
Has your tracking code be altered on site?
Has the Analytics Tracking Been Removed/Altered?
Any significant changes to site ?
Your website being hacked ?
Spam sources has inflated your analytics setup ?

Please let us know if you found the answer helpful

Cheers

Hi Noman,

I don't think any of these are the reason. The traffic returned normal right the next day. It's only a one day thing. No changes in the tracking code or major changes on the website. Can it be just a cliche?

Hi Tina,

you don't have to worry, it may have caused due to some internal problem with analytics server

Tina was the day the traffic drop within the last 3 days if so you may have to wait for GA to fully process your data. As rule it can take several days for all your data to get processed, so I do not look at anything for 3-5 days. So with today being the 18 I would only look at my data up to and including the 13th sometimes maybe the 14th if management wanted to push the envelope.
