New vs Total Users

My analytics reports shows 900 new users and 1,200 total users. I am running the report for a time period beginning with the launch of my web site. So, I would expect those two figures to be the same because all users were at one point in time new users. New users since web site launch should equal total users. How can this not be the case?

Are you talking about users or sessions? Which report are you looking at?

thanks for taking an interest in helping me, Thomas. I am talking about Users, not Sessions. I am using an Audience Overview report with segments 'All Users', 'New Users' and 'Returning Users'. When I look at the first day I see 207 All Users. That same day I see 125 'New Users'. Since it is a report on Day 1 I think 'All Users' were new, so the number should be the same.

I think another way of asking the same questions is... What does 'All Users' mean? Seems like it does not mean Unique Users, which is what I was thinking.

Thanks again for your interest in helping me.

Hi there,

I have the same kind of question but with a quite different story. For one specific country, my all user is lower than new user number.

How does it come?
