New vs Returning visitors numbers don't add up

Hi

Hoping someone can help me with this

I created a custom report to track user type to a particular page. But the total number of users doesn't add up to the breakdown of new and returning visitors.

Hi Dennis, that answer is a bit misleading. Sampling is too easy to blame. It may always be of worry, but with great enough numbers it should count for huge discrepancy.

As the article states very clearly, this confusion is more often because of a User might be counted twice, in both New and Returning Visitors. Let say a person visited three times. First time he/she was New, second time Returning and third time still Returning, hence counted twice.
