Mobile app: iOS User Traffic + Android User Traffic != All Users

If we look at our mobile app date for May 1 to May 31, we have

5,194 Users - Segment "All Users"

If we now additionally apply the segments "iOS Traffic" and "Android Traffic" to "All Users", the numbers are as follows:

6,975 Users - Segment "All Users"

5,295 Users - Segment "Android Traffic"

1,663 Users - Segment "iOS Traffic"

What is going on here? If we just look at the Segment "All Users", why do I not see 6,975 Users but 5,194? As for my understanding it should show 6,975. Can somebody explain me the numbers please? Are they wrong? Or am I misinterpreting them?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

By definition, Users: Users who have initiated at least one session during the date range. Learn more about how Analytics calculates the number of users.

While segmenting it might be how GA calculates and counts.

Rather than numbers try to focus on trends and look for insights.

Though I am absolutely with you, that in web analytics "trends and insights" might be enough, that is not the case for app development. It DOES make a difference wether there are 5000 or 7000 users. Unfortunately I have no idea which number to trust :/

Hi @Adam F,

Are you using user or session in your segment?

Hi,

I am using the "System" Segments Android and iOS Traffic:

Why can't nobody answer me this Smiley Sad ? These are cleary two highly different numbers for the exact same metric. This should not happen. Why am I the only one who bothers? Does nobody see similar data in their apps?

Hello Adam,
Ensure you haven't applied any sort of filter to the metrics,
Go on to: Audience --> Overview --> and select the segment per profile,
for instance, if you have 2 Apps iOS and Android,
the best practice is to capture the segment relevant to each app, if you are in iOS profile, from All Segments --> iOS data, do the same for android,

Hope this helps out
