Mismatched data between on-screen and CSV export

I the overview section of Analytics, if I export a CSV report, it shows a drastically different number of 'Users' - 421,000 on screen but 633,000 in the exported report.

It happens for various websites, so not just an isolated issue

Anyone got any ideas why this happens and how to rectify it?

Hi @Neil F,

I assuming after exporting the data for a particular date range, you are getting daywise users along with the total Users sum and you are comparing this sum with the User metric on analytics interface.

In GA,the user metric is not additive, but session is. Let me explain:
Lets say, a user visits a website on 1st Jan & 2nd Jan.
The report for 1st Jan only will show: 1 User 1 session.
The report for 2nd Jan only will show: 1 User 1 session
Now, the report for 1st - 2nd Jan will show: 1 User 2 session.

The total users for a particular date range will always be less(or equal), if you add daywise users, because of some of them are repeating.

Let us know, if you were looking for something else.

Hope this helps
