Limit unique event labels

Hi there!

In GA, I now see the following error pop up:

Too many Event Labels

The Event Label report on views of property XXXXXX has an(other) entry. When the number of unique event-label values sent by_trackEvent exceeds the threshold, the excessive hits are aggregated under (other).

Where can I see a count of the number of unique event labels? What is the maximum number of unique event labels?

Thanks in advance!

Jaap

Hi Jaap,

There are two limits on events, one is on how many GA will accept at once when you push them in.. that is not what you have here.

The other limit you have in all GA (Free) reports is a row limit of 50k rows. That's an awful lot of labels! There are other times and situations where it will aggregate into other...

Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot, we do use labels to store our product codes when adding items to your basket. Maybe that wasn't such a good idea after all Smiley Tongue

Thanks a lot anyway! I'll accept it as the solution Smiley Happy

HI Jaap O,

Thanks. Smiley Happy If you're using it to track cart adds, I would recommend Enhanced Ecommerce. It's not the easiest thing to implement, but worth the extra $ you can eek out through better measurement and merchandising.

The Google Doc is here..
https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6014841?hl=en
and Google coding guide here:
https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/enhanced-ecommerce

I've also written two guides (freely available) that take the above and and offer more of a practical walk through for GA & GTM. If you want, you can check them out here (contact form fill is required):

Hope that helps.

Hey Theo, Thanks a lot for the links, you are right that Enhanced E-commerce (EE) is the way to go. We've set up some of it, like the purchasing funnel, but not the product impressions/add to carts etc. I'm a bit worried that tracking impressions would push us over our 10m hit limit very quickly though, so maybe i'll just stick to add-to-carts for now Smiley Happy

Thanks a lot for the links. I'll try to convince people around here of the necessity of EE.

PS: does EE not suffer the same problems with cardinality as the regular GA does? I dont think our product catalog is that big, but just in case...

Hey Japp O,

Yes, cardinality is a function of the version of GA, so you have row limits in your reports that you can only increase via GA Premium.
