Impossible Referral Traffic

Hey everyone!! Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I'm seeing referrals that are impossible - I don't think they're spam referrals, since many of them have revenue tied to them. But for example, we're getting referral traffic from bwiairport.com to our booking.execucar.com subdomain, which is impossible, since the links on this page: http://www.bwiairport.com/en/travel/ground-transportation/trans/sedan don't point to the booking subdomain.

This is just one example - there are a lot of sites referring traffic to the booking subdomain, even some that are referring traffic to the confirmation page on the subdomain. The booking subdomain is not a link that is out there - I did realize that the robots.txt file needs to be turned off for the booking subdomain while I was trying to figure out this issue, but that would show up as organic traffic, not as referral traffic. Any ideas?

Because after arriving via the www.bwiairport page link I bookmarked booking.execurar.com? :-)

See https://www.e-nor.com/blog/google-analytics/direct-visits-google-analytics-attribution-precedence

FYI you also appear to be loading GA twice on booking.execucar.com use the Google Tag Assistant with your browser (https://get.google.com/tagassistant/) for troubleshooting.

Hey Phillip, thanks for the reply. I had ruled out the bookmarking scenario because it's a high number of visits - in the thousands - and I'm seeing new visits in those buckets as well. Our campaign settings have us timing out at 6 months.

And thanks for the insight on the GA code!!

Assuming you have subdomain traffic working fine, - when I land on your home page and begin a session and then bookmark your booking page (as long as subdomain tracking is working) then the subsequent bookmarked visit gets credited to the original source until your campaign settings time out or I use another non-direct source to return.

See: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6205762?hl=en#flowchart

Your new sessions may be another story - when I tested the site, you also had a very slow response.  You might have visitors clicking to the bookings subdomain before tracking can complete on the previous page.
