How to check whether email is opened or not

Hi,

I am trying to implement a report in Google Analytics to check whether the user has read a particular email or not. I am sending a hidden image in the email with the src as shown below.
<img width="1" height="1" alt="" id="_x0000_i1025" src="http://www.google-analytics.com/collect?v=1&amp;tid=XXXXXX&amp;cid=XXXXXamp;t=event&amp;ec=email&amp..." width="1" height="1" />

I have added a custom metric to check whether the email is opened or not. cm1=1. I am getting the email opened count in the report, But as soon as I send the email it is incrementing the number by 1 even before I open the email. I need to increment it only if the user has opened the email and downloaded the image. Could you please help me on implementing this.

Hi Vasim,

Thanks for the reply. I went through the links you provided. But which is the exact property that we need to set for tracking below whether email is opened and read by user.

<img width="1" height="1" alt="" id="_x0000_i1025" src="http://www.google-analytics.com/collect?v=1&amp;tid=XXXXXX&amp;cid=XXXXX&amp;t=event&amp;ec=email&am..." width="1" height="1" />

just make sure that the cid parameter is unique (could contain hashed email recipient id)

Hi Julien,

The problem i that when I checked in Fiddler tool, I found that when I am sending the email itself, the count is getting incremented. I didn't want that. I just need the count to be incremented only when user clicks on download image after opening the email. Can we do that...
